Fuck You, Bernie Sanders.

by kara on June 6, 2016

After months and months of prefacing everything with “I love Bernie Sanders”, and saying “aren’t we lucky to have two good candidates,” and “you know, they have more in common than they have differences,” or “you know, they voted the same way 93% of the time” to the Bernie supporters of my acquaintance, only to be told to “fuck off and DIAF because she’s a Republican muuuuuuuurdererer and her supporters are too and she’s the establishment and a Crimey McFraudypants and no one is really supporting her and NO FUCK YOU, BERNIE BROS ARE A MYTH YOU MADE UP TO HURT BERNIE’S SPARROW-CHARMING FEELINGS,” I am going to take a moment and say “fuck you, Bernie Sanders”. Just FUCK YOU. The White Man Dude is now going to contest the convention no matter what he says. Say what you will about Hillary and her “blinding ambition” but in 2008 she was a HELL of a lot closer to the nomination when she bowed out than Bernie currently is and she did it for unity. Bernie has NEVER been a Democrat and he isn’t one now and his shameless use of party name and apparatus demonstrates complete hypocrisy. He is not content to have fought a close race and then unified behind his vanquisher the way Hillary did, he’s very capable of throwing this election to Donald fucking Trump and seems utterly incapable of seeing this fact. He says he’s worried Hillary will lose to Trump, well his divisive bullshit and ratcheted up rhetoric has greatly increased the chance that she will- a self fulfilling prophecy. So go get treated for that Bern and go fuck yourself, Senator. I keep people of this unfortunate fact, especially since his difference is 3 times greater than Hillary and Obama. Also, any other delegate allocation puts him out of the running. The only reason he is in it is because of the whacked out delegate math of the Democratic primary and that you are practically required to have superdelegate support. I can tell you one thing…if a Dem elects to enter the 2018 Vermont Senate race, Bernie will not get the kid glove treatment from the national Dems that he has in the past.

This is how my Saturday started.

Here’s a guy who’d followed me on Twitter for several years, who would DM me with kind words and old movie suggestions:

take your penis and go home

by kara on June 4, 2016

Women have been erased, silenced, and degraded far too long, that’s it’s kind of old news that it’s happening again.  I must wonder how all those young women so ready to tear down Hilliary will feel when Donald Trump is President and their reproductive rights are lost. My guess is they won’t know what hit them. Those of us who have fought for those rights know how hard won they have been and how endangered they are right now. I’m fed up with all those who just don’t care. I am tired of being told that feminism has allowed me to vote for someone other than “the woman.” But feminism of the sort being practiced by the dudes on social media seems to condemn anyone who isn’t voting for The Man once again. It that’s the new feminism, I’ll take the old. And the ageist attacks from the young blood is just as archaic and biased as anything women withstood before feminism.

After 30 years of voting for penis presidents, I’m supporting Hillary without apology.

ARE YOU PURE ENOUGH?

by kara on June 3, 2016

pure

I’ve been hearing people (Bernie supporters) refer to Hillary as a “flawed” candidate. Flawed, haaving imperfections, not perfect. You know, like Jesus Bernie Sanders. Unflawed = “pure”. How pure are you?

For as long as I can remember, the Republican party has been waging an ideological battle with itself, testing candidates on their fidelity to principle, to are you conservative enough? Do you hate gays and abortions enough?  by requiring that any Republican candidate for office there submit to passing a strict purity test in order to qualify for the ballot. making the sign a fucking pledge. The rules: You must certify that you have only ever had silent, awkward, straight missionary sex with the person you are married to, only while married. Never ever look at porn, not even in disgust. Gays doing marriage, or even civil unions, to each other? Uh, no. Guns for everyone, without any restrictions whatsoever, including places of worship? You bet! Capital punishment because every life is sacred except for not every life because COME ON, some people just need killing? Obviously. Dress codes and teaching kids the Bible in public schools? Duh. Driver’s license exams in English only? Naturally. Mandatory photo IDs for voting? Pffft, like you even have to ask. Democrats don’t usually have contests like this. [click to continue…]

Yes, Please

by kara on May 31, 2016

Apparently The Washington Post reported a few weeks ago that GOP operatives had mounted an effort to derail Donald Trump by bringing in another conservative candidate. Goldman confirmed that several names were being considered at the time, including former Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and retired Army Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal

.
-Tom Coburn: the governor of a state that is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy because of “new age” Reaganomics!!!

-Condoleeza Rice: a war criminal

-Stanley McChrystal: ???????

am i the only person who identified with this girl?

Hey, friends! Ever been accused over being “too smart”? That’s not a thing, right? This month on Twitter I was called: “‘a know-it-all bitch”, a “pasty-faced snob’ who ‘ruins Twitter with her “better than thou” attitude’, as well as “smug, superior and condescending” , and “annoying and boring with words nobody understands”, and a “traitor who likes to use big words”. Also this month, a friend of mine lost her writing job because, wait for it…..she used “too many big words”. She also threatened the attenuate sexuality of her male co workers (lest you think Hollywood is some sort of progressive bastion open to all types, there’s no business like show business, unless, of course, you’re a woman; and then it’s just like every other fucking business in the world), bitter, woman-hating rage robots, witty male observers of the screwy and crazed female other who make a pastime of unmoral, vicious observations, as if womanhood was grotesque, magnificent fodder for the amateur ethnographer.

Usually when dudes are threatened by dames who are cleverer than them it is less about ability than gender. Obviously, intelligence is not “masculine” and it does not reside solely in so-called ‘male brains. Yet, patriarchy dictates that all the intelligence (and the centers of power that come with that intelligence), should reside in the heads of men. Men such as Barack Obama, Elon Musk, Stephen Hawkins, are all respected because of their intelligence and not because of their biological sex, but women can never escape their biological sexual definitions. Virulent, women-hating invectives are being  levied at us because we threaten male supremacy. Women claiming intelligence must be nipped in the bud otherwise patriarchy will be overrun with uppity women claiming intellectual equality with men so we must be subordinated to ensure the hierarchal male supremacist society continues unchallenged. Smart women are dangerous, too clever for their own good and are asking to be challenged, negated and put down. “Histrionic, you say? Maybe you heaven’t noticed, in which case you are probably a man, a mushroom cloud of retro-sexism appears to have bloomed above the country, a nasty little subculture.

I was talking to a friend of mine this morning who is a senior engineer at at major space tech company. She was spewing with rage levied at the repugnant misogny at her workplace – a place not populated by sub-educated comedy writers unhappy with their home lives – but with actual NASA engineers. Yet our experiences were depressingly similar. The countless mundane betrayals that mark our encounters with so many men in our professional life: the accusations of emotionally driven, “feminized” interactions (anger/sadness over the more “male” petty resentments/steroidal rage), the long-suffering groans that meet any attempt to contextualize sexism and refute the idea that such indignities, grim though they all may be, are not necessarily equally oppressive.

Ideas are fun, aren’t they?

by kara on May 23, 2016

I had coffee with a self-proclaimed Bernie Bro friend of mine recently. Here’s what I learned:

  • Literally every thing Republicans have said about Hillary for the past 30 years is  100% true, because if it wasn’t true why would Bernie even be so popular?
  • Middle class voters will gladly vote to have their taxes raised once we explain to them that in return they’ll get free government healthcare, but the government is so corrupt that we can’t trust it to manage our healthcare as the Obamacare disaster so clearly proved.
  • 20,000 people attended a Bernie rally in California, which is why the Super Delegates need to ‘fall in line’ and give the nomination to Bernie, even though Super Delegates should not support Hillary because that is undemocratic
  • Bernie has the clear momentum here, even though it’s impossible for him to get the nomination based on delegates, which again is where the Super Delegates come in because they need to respect the momentum of the past few primaries, but not the primaries that came before it.
  • Bernie polls a few points higher than Hillary in that one poll about hypothetical general election matchups with Trump, which again is why the undemocratic Super Delegates need to ‘fall in line’ for the sake of democracy
  • The Sanders campaign is NOT a cult of personality, because Sanders is so powerful that once he’s president he can say all the magic words which will finally fix our government and get everyone to support socialism and that is REAL reform
  • The only reason that Sanders isn’t winning is because the media has labeled him a ‘loony fringe candidate,’ but the reason he should win is because he’s a socialist from Vermont who falls squarely outside the mainstream political establishment and people are really looking for that type of candidate in this election as Trump clearly proves and no one cares about the media anyway which is why Trump will end up winning.
  • Bernie deserves all the credit for ‘pushing Hillary to the left’ because clearly Hillary is such an incompetent and inexperienced politician that she needed someone to do that for her, and clearly she only moved further to the left in the past couple of months, all because of Bernie, which again is why the Super Delegates really need to ‘fall in line’ and support the man that did all the heavy lifting but not the woman that just ‘fell in line’ with his campaign.
  • It isn’t at all pertinent or relevant how President Bernie Sanders would interact with the GOP-controlled House of Representatives, but there is a lot of talk about “DC insiders”.
  • The corporate media is complicit in keeping Hillary Clinton the Democratic front-runner and everyone is tired of reporters letting this email scandal go and letting this email scofflaw off the hook.
  • It’s really going to be hard for some Sanders supporters to accept the fact that Jeff Weaver took their $27 dollars and threw it away, which is why we need to keep hope alive and go all the way to the DNC to prove that those $27 donations weren’t wasted.
  • On the topic of Donald Trump, we were in agreement: He probably has studied the Dark Arts, and if elected could be the “President Snow of American politics.” We were so pleased at the Hunger Games reference that we forgot to point out in our Comic Book Guy voice that Panem actually is America, but in a dystopian future. Also, our favorite conspiracy theory is that Ted Cruz is the Zodiac Killer, so score one for memes.

BrosI pay attention, and agree with any points I agree with, namely the obscene corruption of our financial system and institutions, and the heinous and immoral and unending wars in the middle east and beyond. Alas, the Bernie folks insisting that I try to understand them and give them a pass because they’re excited about the revolution have less than zero interest in understanding me. (Standard #NotAllBernieBros disclaimer here.) I understand them just fine. They’re just fucking wrong.

Game of Thrones, or Star Trek?

The production value on Game of Throne has taken a nose dive this season, probably because the actors salaries have soared and they have to dip into somebody’s coffers. The production design budget often gets the short end of the stick. My sister, a successful production designer, says that whenever she shoots a period piece she sees the same spray painted gold goblet with jewels stuck on and the same plastic crawling ivory in the prop box. From the glossy plastic vines to the Xenaesque Sand Snakes,  let’s anticipate how the episodes might look to us in 20 – 30 years….

Ah,  Dorne – the exotic peninsula of hot blooded, olive skinned  inhabitants, and the aforementioned plastic crawling vines.
