My friend. RIP.

When exactly did the Republican Party cease functioning as a political party? Now it is some sort of corporatist franchise, supported by a massive system of election fraud incorporating the US Supreme Court and privatized electronic voting, which can not be independently audited. the result is empowerment of a lunatic fringe.

“The Selma marchers were agitators who deserved to be beaten.” — National Review, 1965

“The movie “Selma” was reminiscent of past racism that is all over. Talking of racism now is just agitation.”

Dear American Conservatives:

Your efforts at “governing” an advanced society in this century have been consistently atrocious. Indeed, they would be comical if they did not result as often as they do in needless suffering and death. Please leave government to people who are equipped to do it, and who actually believe in it.

PS You disgraceful, brain-dead, sadistic, fucking troglodytes.

Damnit Where’s the Granite?

by kara on February 22, 2015

A guy named Nathan Chandler posted pictures to sell his never-used, mid-century pink kitchen on Flickr. The house itself was built in 1956, and the kitchen is equipped with vintage GE appliances. According to the article, the house hasn’t been occupied and the appliances have never been used. But weirdly, there is an obviously state of the art stainless steel dishwasher to the left of the sink.

Anyway, it is magnificent an chirmeric with bult-in stainless steel tissue box and paper towel holders. It is puzzling why it’s “never been used”, if that is in fact true The story is the prior owners never moved into the house and then sold it to Mr. Chandler in 2009 with the agreement to not tell why they never lived in house. Curiouser and curiouser.

Because it wasnt open-concept and lacked granite and stainless and shit, the new owner apparently sold off the pink kitchen parts.

Does it seem as if a good chunk of right-wing energy goes specifically toward “irritating liberals”? That also seems to be one of the main guides of their moral compass and also a source of getting their rocks off. Does that seem like a trait of a higher-functioning animal or some kind of recessive sub-species?

Paul Liebe (guy on the right in the photo above lol), who owns Nitelife Billiards”, describes his new “open carry” T-shirts and polo shirts as “conversation starters” that are also intended to irritate liberals.

“Freedom of speech, it’s your right, and it just has a little kick on the side,” Liebe said.

Check out the site, it is worth it.

These dumb shirts could become the latest ironic clothing fad among hipsters. What a great way to visually mock the whole “open carry” thing than by packing pictures of guns printed on your clothing instead toting around the real thing? After all, carrying a gun only gives the bearer the illusion of security, so why not dial up the absurdity to 11 by going about in public while wearing something that is only an illusion of a gun? The wearer can therefore rightly state that his or her screen-printed shirt provides exactly the same amount of personal security as heavy three dimensional guns do. And they can be easily obtained without submitting to a background check, just like how many actual guns are obtained. What a hoot! OR, Go all the way and get an upper body tattoo that creates the illusion of wearing a shirt

So, what would the liberal counter-shirt be? A t-shirt with a bunch of text books printed under the sleeve so it looked like you were learning something? That would really piss off Republicans.

Save the Bell

by kara on February 20, 2015

This is just goddamned adorable

It started with some hard-shell tacos and a dream. Glen Bell thought up crunchy, Americanized taco shells, making the traditional Mexican chow more fast food friendly. In 1962, Señor Bell opened his very first Taco Bell in a modest Mission-style building in Downey, California, a city rich with fast-food history (it is also home to the world’s oldest operating McDonald’s restaurant, which opened in 1953).

Today, there are roughly 6,000 Taco Bell restaurants in the U.S. including the run-down, crappy one across the street from my house in Eagle Rock. Now, the small cinderblock structure in Downey where mass-market Mexican food arguably began, faces an uncertain future. Although the structure hasn’t held a Taco Bell for close to two decades, it has played host to a number of other taco joints, the most recent being local chain “Seafood and Tacos Raul”. After that restaurant closed last year,  the Downey Conservancy became concerned that the building was under threat of demolition.

#SaveTacoBell at least the Downey Taco Bell. You can tear down the one in my neighborhood instead.

I find this totally desirable.
