The GOP is essentially an uneasy alliance between two groups with not that much in common: the greedy guts/robber barons and the prudes/Xtians. The robber barons couldn’t care less about gays and abortion. The Jesuses aren’t interested in deregulation and capital gains taxes. If the two groups separated, forming a Jesus party and a Robber Baron Party, the Dems would womp the snot out of both. Only way the GOP win is by keeping the unhappy marriage between its two constituent elements from filing for divorce.
