Former British prime minister Tony Blair was attacked by anti-war protesters in Dublin at his first public book signing to promote his memoirs. They pummeled him with eggs and shoes!<\/p>\n

It’s said that Blair chose Ireland for his only in-person interview since his memoirs’ publication because he felt he would get a better hearing because of the peace he secured in Northern Ireland. Blair was actually one of a line of politicians that managed a process that was developing independently of them.\u00c2\u00a0The rabble rousers in the crowd \u00c2\u00a0at a bookshop in a Dublin called Easons\u00c2\u00a0included anti-war demonstrators and the Continuity IRA-aligned Republican Sinn F\u00c3\u00a9in, who oppose the Northern Ireland peace process.<\/p>\n

In the book, \u00c2\u00a0A Journey –<\/em> released last month, and one of the fastest selling autobiographies on record -\u00c2\u00a0Blair defends his decision to go to war with Iraq in 2003.\u00c2\u00a0Before the signing, Blair had already enraged the anti-war movement in Ireland with with his appearance on the Irish “The Late Late Show” show, during which Blair warned that Iran was now one of the biggest state sponsors of radical Islam and must be prevented from developing a nuclear weapon, even if that meant taking military action.<\/p>\n

I’m all for the ‘trial by the street’ as long as the abuse is limited to shoes (a time worn tradition) and the occasional egg, rotten egg, or tomato. Non egg-related justice however, should also be done.
