In response to the closing of the B. Dalton bookstore in Laredo, Texas which has left the city of over a quarter of a million people with no bookstore, the members of the community have banded together to open their own used bookshop.  On March 9th, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.laredoartcenter.org\/\">The Laredo Center for the Arts<\/a> opened a store called <a href=\"http:\/\/laredobookstoreblog.blogspot.com\/2010\/03\/secondhand-bookstore-opens-in-laredo.html\">LC4A.<\/a> The former art-souvenir shop was converted through personal book donations and will sell books at bargain prices to encourage readers to shop for their books locally.<\/p>\n<p>The volunteers at LC4A are grateful for any book donations  I am collecting books from friends and co-workers to ship off to Texas so that the good people of Laredo are not left without access to books.<\/p>\n<p>You can call them at 956-725-1715<br \/>\nOr simply box up your old books and mail them to:<br \/>\n<em>Laredo Center for the Arts<br \/>\n500 San Augustin Avenue<br \/>\nLaredo, Texas 78040<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>You don&#8217;t have to burn books to destroy a culture.
