Sometimes she hit her with hairbrushes.<\/p>\n Little Lotta<\/span> <\/strong>Plump’s\u00a0obsession with food does not make Lotta an obese slob. The more she eats, the stronger she becomes. She wants to be out dancing the Charleston and instead she’s stuck being a nursemaid to a bratty 8-year-old.<\/p>\n Under the beneficent care of Aunt Fritzi, Nancy is not spared the rod, the shoe, the hairbrush or the boxing glove.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Aunt Fritzi \u00a0is a sadistic disciplinarian, not qualified to raise a cat let alone a child. NOT an ideal model for a young child,<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n When dad is a little snoozy, he finds clever ways of beating Dot. He even beats her on family vacations.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Here she is getting beaten with a flashlight. A fckng flashlight.<\/p>\n What can Little Dot do to stop the beatings?<\/p>\n Call the cops? No can do.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Teacher’s Pet Patsy<\/span><\/strong> tries to be really nice to her teacher, who rewards her by beating the living crap out of her every chance she gets whilst her sadistic little\u00a0classmates watch and laugh. All poor Patsy wants is to get in the teacher’s good graces. And all she ever receives is a violent\u00a0thrashing, caning or spanking – metered out by her own beloved teacher.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Patsy also enrages her classmates with her behavior, \u00a0and they take great delight in Patsy’s violent\u00a0comeuppance, aka \u00a0vicious beatings, sometimes with sticks and rulers. There’s a long tradition of ‘naughty children’ in British comic book characters. America got a thousand different superheroes, Britain got a thousand different naughty children who in turn got a lot of physical abuse. Beryl the Peril and Minnie the Minx were both created to be female versions of Dennis the Menace. They weren’t. They\u00a0weren’t bratty boy characters with vaginas – they subverted the other character’s ideas of acceptable behaviour for a girl and fought against the expectations of their gender fiercely. And, the\u00a0last frame of practically every Beryl and Minnie story featured the girls turned over their father\u2019s knee getting a healthy heaping of the ‘Whacking Slipper.’ ”<\/p>\n Beryl the Peril is\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0devious tomboy and a true original. She gives as good as she gets, she\u2019s \u00a0 fearless and with a total disregard for other people\u2019s opinions of her.\u00a0\u00a0“Snot fair!”, Beryl wails, causing\u00a0chaos through menacing her neighbors, Beryl makes her dad really, really mad. So he\u00a0beats the shit out of her. I’m talking viciously pummeled. Even her mom Cora gets in on the action. Often. Sometimes with that old mom standby weapon, the hairbrush.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n “I’m next”.<\/strong><\/p>\n Nice.<\/p>\n Iodine’s parents seem completely unhinged, leading miserable lives and taking their rage out on their kid. <\/p>\n Look at the level of sheer psychopathy in mom’s face. She doesn’t even look mad, she seems stunned and unhinged. <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Sometimes, one hand isn’t enough and you need two.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Sometimes, you need more than hands and you need \u00a0a ruler, book, a shoe, or a hairbrush.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Iodine really is a tragic figure.
