Don&#8217;t let that horrible state dodge the blame for him just because he were born elsewhere). Come t&#8217; find out, Ol&#8217; Texas Ted wasn\u2019t always so willing to mingle with the unwasheds! That is because folksy humble man of the people refused to commingle with folks from the &#8216;LESSER IVIES&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>From the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gq.com\/news-politics\/newsmakers\/201310\/ted-cruz-republican-senator-october-2013?currentPage=3\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">GQ profile of Cruz<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As a law student at Harvard, he refused to study with anyone who hadn\u2019t been an undergrad at Harvard, Princeton, or Yale. Says Damon Watson, one of Cruz\u2019s law-school roommates: \u201cHe said he didn\u2019t want anybody from \u2018minor Ivies\u2019 like Penn or Brown.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Yep, that\u2019s some real Plumber-Joe Moose-Pack stuff right there! I still can&#8217;t understand is how a man who doesn&#8217;t like grads from the &#8220;lesser Ivies&#8221;, stoops to being buddies with Sarah Palin? Something doesn&#8217;t add up.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Anyone who got into Harvard Law on merit made Ted Cruz very insecure&#8230;.he couldn&#8217;t actually\u00a0<em>be<\/em> elite, so he decided to simulate it by ignoring an entire group of people &#8212; which makes him eminently qualified to be a Texas Republican.\u00a0Don&#8217;t anybody tell Ted about the State institutions of higher learning, I&#8217;m not sure he would be able to handle the idea of edumacation for the masses.<\/p>\n<p>Several fellow classmates of Ted Cruz &#8211; \u00a0who wisely asked that their names not be used &#8211; \u00a0described the collegiate Cruz with words like \u201cabrasive,\u201d &#8220;intense,&#8221; \u201cstrident,\u201d \u201ccrank,\u201d and \u201carrogant.&#8221; Four former classmates independently offered the word <em>\u201ccreepy&#8221;<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Several classmates pointed to Cruz\u2019s habit of donning a paisley bathrobe and sauntering over to the opposite end of their dorm\u2019s hallway where the female students lived. One of the classmates said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI would end up fielding the [girls\u2019] complaints: &#8216;Could you please keep your roommate out of our hallway?'&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>When the girls complain about your creepy paisley bathrobe, there may be a problem.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/articles\/2013\/08\/19\/ted-cruz-at-princeton-creepy-sometimes-well-liked-and-exactly-the-same.html\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">ringing endorsement<\/span><\/a> of Ted from his poor freshman roommate at Princeton University:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Craig Mazin said he knew some people might be afraid to speak in the press about a senator, but added of Cruz, \u201cWe should be afraid that someone like that has power.\u201d And the idea that his freshman roommate could someday be the leader of the free world? \u201cI would rather have anybody else be the president of the United States. Anyone,\u201d Mazin said. \u201cI would rather pick somebody from the phone book.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Could it possibly be, in part, related to the paisley bathrobe? More from the profile:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Cruz also angered a number of upperclassmen his freshman year when he joined in a regular poker game and quickly ran up $1,800 in debt to other students from his losses. Cruz\u2019s spokeswoman, Catherine Frazier, said Cruz acknowledges playing in the poker games, which he now considers \u201cfoolish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe went to his aunt, who worked at a bank in Dallas, and borrowed $1,800 from her, which he paid in cash and promptly quit the game,\u201d Frazier told The Daily Beast, explaining that Cruz worked two jobs and made monthly payments to his aunt for the next two years to repay the debt.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was my distinct impression that Ted had nothing to learn from anyone else,\u201d said Erik Leitch, who lived in Butler College with Cruz. Leitch said he remembers Cruz as someone who wanted to argue over anything or nothing, just for the exercise of arguing. \u201cThe only point of Ted talking to you was to convince you of the rightness of his views.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Even &#8220;fans&#8221; of Ted struggle to name a single legislative accomplishment of his, or praise anything in particular that he\u2019s done. Lines like\u00a0\u201dhe\u2019s smart enough to know is an entirely cynical thing to do,\u201d and\u00a0\u201dhe\u2019s smart enough to know better\u201d pop up several times in the profile from Cruz sympathizers. And\u00a0John McCain \u201cf***ing hates him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As a legal &#8220;scholar&#8221; for W Bush, Ted was fond of sending out summaries of his accomplishments, which one coworker compared to \u201cthe cards people send about their families at Christmas, except Ted\u2019s were only about him and were more frequent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his office hangs a massive fine oil painting of Cruz during his first oral argument before the Supreme Court, a case he lost. As profiler\u00a0Jason Zengerle points out, the painting features three courtroom artists drawing the same scene, so it actually has\u00a0<em>four<\/em> images of Cruz. He says it\u2019s to keep him \u201cgrounded,\u201d which is totally what life-sized oil paintings of yourself are for.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Ted Cruz has something call his &#8220;Argument Boots&#8221;, grotesque, full-sized, black ostrich skin cowboy boots that he would not wear to the old Supreme Court, because the late Chief Justice William Rehnquist was a stickler for attire \u2014 but after John Roberts took over, he says:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cI guess I was feeling a little cheeky, because I took the opportunity to ask \u2018Mr. Chief Justice, do you have any views on the appropriateness of boots as footwear at oral argument?\u2019. . . Roberts chuckled and he said, \u2018You know, Ted, if you\u2019re representing the state of Texas, they\u2019re not only appropriate, they\u2019re required.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div>\n<p>Oh, slog through the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gq.com\/news-politics\/newsmakers\/201310\/ted-cruz-republican-senator-october-2013?currentPage=3\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">whole article <\/span><\/a>yourself,\u00a0just to get to the part about the&#8221;argument boots&#8221;, the paisley bathrobe, and his &#8220;dear friend&#8221; William Rehnquist.
