DES MOINES (The Borowitz Report)\u2014A new Mitt Romney is emerging in the closing days of the campaign, aides say: a man who is increasingly \u201cbeing eaten alive with jealousy\u201d by President Obama\u2019s budding relationship with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.<\/p>\n

While Mr. Romney has told reporters that he is \u201ctotally fine\u201d with Gov. Christie flying around in a helicopter with President Obama, privately he has told aides, \u201cSeeing him with Chris Christie is tearing me apart.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The trouble began earlier this week, a Romney aide said, when Mr. Romney saw Mr. Christie on CNN mention that President Obama \u201chad given him his number at the White House.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMitt was like, \u2018Fine, whatever, do we have to watch this?\u2019 and then basically ran out of the room,\u201d the aide said. \u201cIt was completely awkward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Making matters worse, the aide said, \u201cChris Christie isn\u2019t returning his calls.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMitt was trying to explain his position on\u00a0FEMA<\/small> to reporters yesterday and he got all excited because his phone started vibrating,\u201d the aide said. \u201cIt turned out it was just Ann.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Romney, who has been seen doodling Chris Christie\u2019s name in the margins of his briefing books in recent days, has apparently decided on a new course of action: to make the New Jersey governor jealous.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s been calling [New York Governor Andrew] Cuomo,\u201d the aide said. \u201cBut Cuomo won\u2019t call him back either. It\u2019s all so sad.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
