His\u00a0owners at Zayat Stable contacted the New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program in Lexington, KY to see if they would be interested in taking the newly gelded champion. The program was thrilled to get a horse with such a prestigious resume, citing it as the\u00a0first time a Kentucky Derby contender has been made available for adoption publicly.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/therail.blogs.nytimes.com\/2011\/05\/04\/z-fortune-awaits-life-after-racing\/\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Z&#8217;s adoption story was featured in the NY Times<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0then again <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thoroughbredtimes.com\/national-news\/2011\/05\/12\/hrtv-conley-adopts-z-fortune.aspx\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">when Carolyn Conley adopted him<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Apart from his successes on the racetrack, we remember Z for his brief but memorable stay in Skippy&#8217;s barn at Flintridge Riding Club, where the 6 year old Kentucky Derby horse and the middle aged &#8220;ring horse&#8221;, \u00a0developed an odd couple, equine friendship.
