I trace the origins of the payback loop to 1974, when the hooligans, hippies and yippies, “radical liberals” and “effete corps of impudent snobs”, draft dodgers and dilettantes, demanded Richard Nixon be kicked to the curb. That was a bitter pill for conservatives to swallow and they have been not swallowing it for 30+ years.
“You guys sought to impeach Nixon, so we began impeachment proceedings against Bill Clinton at our very first opportunity”.
“You guys made fun of George W’s terrible command of the English language … so we’re gonna mock Obama’s teleprompter”.
“You guys had a woman, so we’re gonna…find…a….”woman”…”.
“You guys had a black guy. We’ll find a black guy”.
“And those mean things you used to say about how terrible our Tea Party protests? Well, those are what’s terrible about your protests, also. You guys mocked our fat, racist, dumb, bitter, mentally ill TeaBaggers, so we’re gonna cherry pick from your bright, happy, educated, attractive, thin, young 99% protesters and make them out to be crazy and out of touch”.
It’s as pathetic as it is obvious.
